18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just [man], and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. {conceived: Gr. begotten} 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. {JESUS: that is, Saviour, Heb} 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. {they...: or, his name shall be called} 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

The first chapter of the gospel of Matthew tells the story of the lineage of Jesus and of His birth. This chapter separates naturally into two major divisions.

The first major division, verses 1 to 17, contains the record of Christ's lineage and these verses further divide into two sections, being verses 1 - 11 and verses 12 - 17. Whilst all these natural divisions each contain significant numerical features, we will focus on the second major division of the chapter being verses 18 - 25. This passage depicts the birth of Jesus Christ.

Pattern of sevens:

  • Feature 1 - The passage contains 161 Greek words, or 23 x 7
  • Feature 2 - The gematria of these 161 words is 93,394, or 13,342 x 7
  • Feature 3 - The passage contains 77 vocabulary words, or 11 x 77
  • Feature 4 - The gematria of the vocabulary is 51,247, or 7,321 x 7
  • Feature 5 - The words of the passage appear in 105 forms

    The following numerical features apply to the words spoken by the angel of the Lord:

  • Feature 6 - The angel uses 28 of the 77 vocabulary words of the passage, or 4 x 7
  • Feature 7 - The gematria of the words spoken by the angel is 21,042, or 3,006 x 7
  • Feature 8 - The angels uses 35 forms, or 5 x 7

    The probability of these 10 features of seven being in this passage by chance is 1 in 282,475,249

    The passage contains 6 words found nowhere else in the gospel of Matthew.

  • Feature 11 - The gematria of these 6 words is 5,005, or 715 x 7
  • Feature 12 - These 6 words have 56 letters, or 8 x 7

    The word "Emmanuel" is used nowhere else in the New Testament.

  • Feature 13 - The gematria of this word is 644, or 92 x 7
The probability of these 13 features of seven being in this passage by chance is 1 in 96,889,010,407
