Go, Stand Speak

In the book of Acts, chapter 5, we read of the apostles being thrust into prison because of their commitment to the gospel.

"And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch ... And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) ... Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison." (Acts 5:12,14,17,18)

The Bible then records that the angel of the Lord miraculously set them free. However, they were not to think that it was merely that they might save their lives by making their escape out of the hands of their enemies. Definitely not! It was that they might resume their labour of love with so much the more boldness.

Recoveries from sickness, releases out of trouble and difficulties, protection and provision are granted us, not that we may just enjoy the comforts of life, but that God may be honoured with the dedicated services of our life. "Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee;" (Psalms119: 175) "Bring my soul out of prison (as the apostles here), that I may praise thy name;" (Psalms143:7)

The apostles were told: "Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life." (Acts 5:20). This is exactly what they did, with eagerness! "And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught." (Acts 5:21)

We have been given the same commission - to go, stand and speak.

"... Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)

"... stand perfect and complete in all the will of God." (Col 4:12)

"... speak the word without fear." (Phil 1:14)

"I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus Who is to judge the living and the dead, and by (in the light of) His coming and His kingdom: Herald and preach the Word! Keep your sense of urgency (stand by, be at hand and ready, whether the opportunity seems to be favourable or unfavourable, whether it is convenient or inconvenient, whether it be welcome or unwelcome, you as a preacher of the Word are to show people in what ways their lives are wrong) and convince them, rebuking and correcting, warning and urging and encouraging them, being unflagging and inexhaustible in patience and teaching." (2 Timothy 4:1,2 Amplified Bible)
